CMMC Practice Requirement:

Ensure that organizational systems containing Federal Contract Information are protected during and after personnel actions such as terminations and transfers.

CMMC Requirement Explanation:

When an employee is terminated from your company they no longer have a legitimate need to access your systems. As a result their system access must be revoked. Employees who change job roles may no longer need access to some resources. As a result their access to system resources must be reviewed and updated to reflect their assigned duties.

Example CMMC Implementation:

Create an employee termination process. This includes revoking their system access, taking possession of company provided equipment, and debriefing them. Create a process for when employees transfer to a different team in your organization. This includes modifying their account and physical access authorizations to reflect their new job role.

Scenario(s):

- Scenario 1:

HR has informed the IT team that an employee will be terminated at 3:00 PM. At 3:00 PM the IT team revokes the employees access to any company systems. The employees manager collects his equipment and provides it to IT.

- Scenario 2:

HR has informaed the IT team that an employee is moving from the accounting department to another department. IT coordinates with the employees new manager to determine which permissions the employee needs. IT revokes the permissions no longer needed by the employee.
